This calculator estimates an informational Metacam dose for dogs using body weight, a common dosing regimen, and the product concentration (mg/mL). Always follow your veterinarian’s instructions and the product label.
What the calculator outputs
Total dose (mg) - the amount of meloxicam in milligrams for the selected regimen.
Volume (mL) - the approximate liquid volume to administer based on the concentration you enter.
Safety flag - a simple indicator for unusual inputs (for example, very low or very high body weight) so you can double-check with a veterinarian.
Typical label-style regimen used
Many canine oral suspension labels use:
Initial (Day 1) - \(0.2 \text{ mg/kg}\) given once.
Maintenance (After Day 1) - \(0.1 \text{ mg/kg}\) once daily.
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with your veterinarian’s plan.
Formulas behind the scenes
The calculator converts your weight to kilograms if needed and then applies:
Meloxicam is an NSAID and may not be appropriate for every dog. Product information and veterinary guidance often caution against use in certain conditions (for example, gastrointestinal disease, liver or kidney impairment, bleeding disorders, pregnancy/lactation, and very young animals).
The calculator is not a diagnostic tool and does not determine whether Metacam is suitable for your dog. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, appetite changes, lethargy, black/tarry stools, or any concerning signs, contact a veterinarian promptly.
Concentration matters
Different products and regions may have different concentrations. Always read the bottle or packaging and enter the exact concentration in mg/mL before using the volume result.
