Limitations of ROI
While powerful, ROI has limitations. It also doesn't consider the holding period of the investment. A 20% ROI over one year is vastly superior to a 20% ROI over ten years, yet the simple ROI formula treats them equally. For time-sensitive analysis, other metrics like the Annualized ROI or Net Present Value (NPV) are often used alongside or instead of basic ROI.
